My Turn!

For years I have been following the blogs of other women (and even a few men) that I can always relate to. I see pieces of myself in each of them and that always seems to remind me of how normal I am, even when I am in the midst of not-so-normal situations in life. I feel like they give me so much just by putting themselves out there for all of us to relate to. And I finally decided that it was time for me to give back. To give people stories to laugh about, if nothing else! I also want this to be a place where I can keep my thoughts somewhat gathered and document memories for myself and my children.

A little about me. I am a 31 year old single mom of 3. My oldest son, K1, is 14 and a freshman in high school. My second son, K2, is 10 and in the 4th grade. Then there's my little princess, or Roo (as in kangaroo), or K3, who is 4 going on 14! The boys have both played soccer since they were 4 and this current season Roo got to get in on the action too. Many of our evenings are spent at soccer practice and most Saturdays are filled with games. As much as I love being soccer mom, I sure look forward to my summer break!

With that, I will start you off with a little Roo story. Her little soccer team consists of 4 pint-sized girls and they play 3-vs-3. Even though she has watched her brothers play for years, she is still trying to get the main game concepts down. The girls often play against teams that consist of boys. Two weeks ago, they were playing against a "boy" team. The girls were getting smoked by the boys, but they had no clue. They just play until the whistle blows and really don't understand the whole "scoring" concept. The girls had lost every one of their games thus far and this day was no different. The game is over and we cheer the girls on, give them their snacks, have their traditional "group hug", and we all go on our way. Our way that day was over to another field to watch K2's game that was about to begin. All of the parents were asking Roo how she did in her game and asking if they won. Her response? "Yes we won. We had boys on our team today!" I guess we should start with the first concept of the game....who is on your team vs. who you are playing against?
